Althea “Alphelia” Jackson Murray, 68, of Los Angeles passed away on October 20, 2020 in her home.
Funeral services will be held noon on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Boyd’s Funeral Home (11109 Vermont Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90044) with Pastor Lance Riley of Neighborhood Church of Long Beach, officiating. Burial will take place noon on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at
Odd Fellows Cemetery in Auvergne, Arkansas. Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Home (Los Angeles, CA) and Taylor Kimbrough Funeral Home (Newport, AR).
Althea was born in Newport, AR to Mary Lee Boyd Jackson and Edward Lee Jackson on January 28, 1952. She went to school at McCrory High School (McCrory, AR). She married James O. Murray, Sr. on May 26, 1979 in Las Vegas, NV. They later divorced in March of 2004. She worked as a Senior Typist Clerk for Los Angeles County Department of Health Services for 39 years. She volunteered many hours as team mom at Bethune Park Sports and Recreation. She attended Praises of Zion Missionary Baptist Church (Los Angeles, CA) with family.
Althea is preceded in death by both parents. She was one of twelve children born to this union. Her brothers, Alfred, Otis, Curtis, and sisters, Della and Juanita, all have preceded her in death.
Althea leaves to cherish her memory: five children; daughters Shawntaé (Ramone) Purnell and Tiwianna Thomas both of Los Angeles; sons Michael (Charmel) Murray of Phoenix, James (Deirdre) Murray, Jr. of New Orleans and Antwon Thomas of Denver, nine grandchildren; Davieon, Deiontre, Jala, Logan, McKayla, Landon, MyKel, Sofia, Demi, and great-grandchild Jamari; three sisters, Betty (Lorn) Demery, Martha (Reggie) Lewis, and Catherine Jackson; three brothers, Floyd (Doris) Jackson, Emmett Jackson, and Dale Ray (Cynthia) Jackson. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, relatives, and friends.
