Lorene Crockett

On December 7, 1932, Lorene DeShone was born in Caldwell, Texas. She was the third born of twelve children and the first daughter of Lovie Vell and Jimmy Earl DeSHone. Her formative years were spent in Caldwell, Texas where she attended the local public schools then she went on to Smith High School in Gause, Texas.

At an early age she accepted Christ and was baptized by the late Reverend G.W. Chatman at St. Matthews Baptist Church. Throughout her life she never strayed far from her home church and she often returned during annual homecomings.

On September 2 1950, she married her "Honey" James Crockett Sr., who proceeded her in death. To this blessed union, three sons were born: James Jr., Kenneth Wayne, and Davie M. Crockett. Lorene was always there for those who needed the comfort of a mother. She provided foster care to a young boy named Michael that she spoke often of but had lost touch with. Michael would not be the last as she would go on to open her home to friends and family members who needed comfort or covering. Lorene always wanted a daughter and in 1985 three grand little ladies who already held a special place in her heart. Nakia, NaTesh, and Zaadia, came into her home and filled that void.

Lorene worked as a caregiver in a convalescent home and was a founding member of her own privately owned catering business "PTL" where she made great use out of one of the many talents she was known for. These talents were also displayed in her employment years with the Compton Unified School District.

Lorene and her family were proud and faithful members of Greater Mount Hermon Missionary Baptist Church until she moved away after the loss of her "Honey". She was very active in her church, serving in various positions which gave her pride and joy. She was just as active in her community which mainly consisted of her many displays of her culinary skills.

On October 11, 2017, our lives would be forever changed as she began a battle that would last three and a half months. Her granddaughter, Zaadia stood firmly by her side, tending to her needs until the early Sunday morning of January 21, 2018 at 9:42 A.M. when she was called home to join her loving husband, parents and loved ones that proceeded her in her spiritual transition.

She ;eaves behind to cherish her memory, her three sons: James Jr. (Lena), Kenneth Wayne and Davie Crockett; seven granddaughters, Lynyea, Shannine, Michellem Brendam and three of which she raised as her own, Nakia, Natesha, and Zaadia; three grandsons Keyshawn Crockett, Ajani Jones, James Crockett III; three sisters, Viivan Hawkins of Daly City, Erma(Jean) Woolridge of Houston, Tx., Wilma Faye Hanks Robey of Caldwell, Tx; four brothers, Jimmy L. DeShone of Tulsa, OK, Dan DeShone of San Pedro, CA, Milton DeShone of Bell Gardens, CA., Benny Ray DeShone Sr. of Dallas, TX,; one brother in Law, Edward Crockett(Irene); two sisters in law Lurraine DeShone-Brown of Fort Worth, TX and Corene DeShone of Compton, Ca. Also, holding a special place in her heart, her Godchildren; Ronna Brown, Alan Brown, Kim Brown, David Edwards, and Amber Kemp; twelve great grandchildren; one great great grandson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
