Rosa Thompson Obituary

An additional blessing was added to the home of Roosevelt and Donna Mae Morgan, on May 5, 1929 in Laurel, Mississippi. It was another baby girl which they named Rosa Bell Morgan. Rosa was the second child of eleven children. She attended the Shady Oak School in Soso, Mississippi.

Rosa gave her heart to the Lord at an early age. She joined the First Sixth Street Baptist Church, under the leadership of the Rev. Ransom Howard in Port Arthur, Texas. She served on the Hannah Circle and the General Mission Society Circle.

Rosa was united in marriage to Wesley Thompson Sr. on November 13, 1956, who proceeded her in death. They raised nine children in their loving home in Port Arthur, Texas

After taking a trip to visit her sister Clara in Los Angeles, California in the summer of 1975, Rosa decided to move her family from Texas to California for a better life. With Rosa's love for cooking, she got a job as a short order cook. She also worked for JB French Cleaners, and as a nursing assistant, at the Nichol Nursing Home.

Rosa's love for children and the Lord, prompted her to go door-to-door, asking parents to allow her to take their children to church with her, assuring their safe arrival back home. Rosa and her children joined the Adoram Missionary Baptist Church, where she was in the church choir, on the usher board, and served as the President of the Senior Mission.

Rosa Bell loved to make patchwork quilts by hand, and loved to preserve fruits and vegetables, which she stored for the winter. Rosa enjoyed cooking fabulous meals for her children. Her favorite meal was candied yams, collard greens, cornbread, and fried chicken.

Rosa Bell was proceeded in death by her parents, Roosevelt and Donna Mae Morgan, four children, Billy Ray, Jimmy Lee, Jerome and Calvin Sr.., four sisters, Rebecca Martin, Helen Trotter, Betty Jean Morgan, Rudy Jay Barnett, three brothers, R.C. Morgan, Cleo Morgan, and Frank Morgan.

Rosa leaves to cherish 5 children, Veronica Lampkin(Steve), Wesley Thompson(Pamela), Patrick Thompson, Sr.(Pam), Frederick Thompson and Glynis Phillips. Three sisters, Bertha Lee Lyndsey, LayRuth Jones, Edna Newell, all of Mississippi, and Clara Riley of California. 17 grandchildren; Marcus, Henry, Keythen Sr., Marriah, Mecca, Patrick Jr., Pierre, Patricio, Angela, Ronnell, April, Terrell, Gianta, Anthony Jr., Calvin Jr., Kawanii, Jamal, and 21 great-grandkids.
